Default Crappie In Arcadia Smell Awful

I have been catching really nice numbers and size at Lake Arcadia the past few months. One thing that’s really bugging me is how these fish smell. Has anyone else noticed the putrid l, foul odor? Is it the stained, muddy water maybe? The bass, saugeye, etc..... don’t seem have it as bad. Nowhere else have I ran into this. Just wondering what everyone’s take is. Thanks.

Is it the fillets or the whole fish that smells?

LOL Maybe you had an experience like mine Redge. I caught a striper out of the Arkansas river at the 31st bridge in Tulsa about ten years ago, when I started to cook it up, it smelled exactly like the like the Sunco refinery smells in summer.

The entire fish when first caught and out of the water. It has to be their diet. I mean these things will make you vomit. Oddly enough the fillets don’t smell

I would check with the local ODWC in that area, they should know for sure since they have to monitor the fish there. You can send them a message through FB or just give them a call.

I just talked to a guy who caught 24 ... 10.5/11.5" four days ago at dock, he said he didn't notice any odd smell.
