Default walleye lures for trolling cranks

from the past I have a lot of Hot'n'trot lures in gaudy colors that we used for walleye at mouth of illinois. Are these too big? also have several similar size crankbaits. Will these work for trolling cranks for crappie or wasting my time?

Those will work. I have caught quite a few fish on them. They will hit just about any crank you want to pull. Just depends on mood of the day. I try mixing sizes and color's when starting the day. Most times if they are biting don't take long to figure out body style they want then start swapping out color's. To me most days crazier the color pattern the better some days.

About 10-12 years ago, there was a guy who trolled for walleyes at Hefner. He would catch some very large crappie and bring them over to the bank and give the crappie to us. The cranks that he used were pretty big. He said that he didn't catch any smaller crappie on them, just the big ones, mostly 2 pounds+.

thanks for info. Haven't had a chance yet. been too tied up taking big Sandy basses off of the hook. Not keeping any. fishing slabs with single hook, barb bent down. Easy on, easy off, no chum line of dead fish. Needing a rod rack or holders to fish with more than one crank bait. Haven't decided which one(s) to use.
