I have never fished there but would be a blast to take some crickets and catch huge sunfish!

I’ve never fished it but I work with a few guys who fish it for bass and crappie. They say it’s a nice little lake. I plan on fishing it this spring.

Boats have been allowed on the lake for at least a year now.

I fish the horse quite often because it is within 10 miles of home. It has a pretty good population of channel cat and some really nice bass in it if you feel like fighting the wannabe professional bass fishermen to fish it. Haven't caught an eating sized sunfish out of it since it reopened but we have discovered that it is almost overrun with sandbass. Never saw a sandbass come out of that lake until they reopened but boy they are there now! Not saying they aren't there but I have fished the lake for over 20 years and never seen a crappie come out of it.

I haven't fished it since it re-opened, but last time I was there I caught 2 nice crappie on crickets while BG fishing, only to have them and about 40 big BG and Redear stolen out of my basket and eaten by COONS! Sneaky devils....

I believe you on the crappie George. I had a fella swear to me he was catching crappie out of it about 15 years ago but I've never been able to produce one. And yes I'm dead serious about the sandbass. In fact I have caught sandbass in canton and fort Cobb my entire life and my biggest one to date was caught out of American horse two winters ago in the middle of October. Picked up a school of fish hugging an old log in 20 foot of water and dropped a crappie jig down to them thinking I found a nice school of sunfish and came up with a 3 pound sandy and before it was over I had landed 10 more nice sized ones. In the early mornings in the summer you can see them running bait up onto the red rock and annihilating it. We like to roll up and throw a hula popper in the fray. Even tried green lighting at night and ended up swarmed by 6 inch sandbass and couldn't keep anything in the water to catch anything else. Not sure who put them in there but it's gonna turn into a bad deal if something drastic isn't done about them.
