Don't shoot me guys cause these pictures are gonna be messed up since I'm posting from my phone. Nothing like getting kids on fish and hear the squeals......they caught over 100 Monday and had sore arms and a sunburn after such a wonderful day fishing........Ranger

Well done on the b/w photography Nub- that is one of those poignant pictures that really tells a story. I am taking several of our grandkids to the lake tomorrow to swim and tube etc. but the 5 year old said " can we go crappie fishing too?" Music to my ears!

You seem to be putting Ranger2016 to very good use Mark- thanks for sharing the day with us. Question- could those kids catch fish on a jig?

Felt like stretching my wings a little on Tuesday so Dennis and I met in Skiatook and then headed to Birch Lake early. I got off to a bad start when I drove past our meeting place and then tried to turn around down a dark narrow alley. Right after I had the thought " wonder if I'm gonna squeeze past that telephone pole?" - Bam! My wheel well on the boat trailer didn't quite make it and I left behind a shattered hazard light to commemorate the event. On the water about daylight and immediately started scanning the long windrow brush piles near the ramp- empty- not a fish on the first 4 huge piles we looked at. Went across the lake thinking maybe they were on smaller more isolated brush but nobody home there either. I could tell that after an hour of looking my partner was getting antsy so we fished a couple of places just to prove to him that I really can read my electronics! We then hit several bushy stick ups in 10-14 fow just off the 35' channel- not a bump. About 4 hours in we found a few nice fish on wood in 15 fow, situated on a point 100' from a cove full of trees. Dennis caught 5 off of that pile- all good ones 12-14". Since I was at zero it was time for me to put down the jigs and go minner soakin. That was the pattern I guess as the next fish came off wood on a point adjoining a cove full of stumps. This time Dennis got to watch me catch a few, including one 13" fish that weighed 1.46, maybe the prettiest crappie I ever caught so I placed her in the Genetics Improvement Program in my back yard. We didn't catch a lot of fish but they sure thumped it hard and fought hard to stay out of the livewell! Enough for two big meals plus the steroidal 13" er. When I pulled into home my grandson came running to see what PoPo caught and then commandeered the days minnow survivors to take out on the paddle boat in my back yard. While I was cleaning fish I heard him hollering that he broke off a big fish then a few minutes later he caught a nice BC. By dark he had caught a mixed bag and only quit because he ran out of minnows. He is just 5 years old but knows what he's doing and is ready to quit kindergarten and fish with PoPo full time! So the slow start ended up a pretty good day helped along by big slabs of BBQ Bologna with zucchini pickle relish for lunch.

I have been adding big crappie to my pond for years now cause I like to see my grandkids and others catch monsters. About a year ago I started adding Shad which spawned successfully this past summer. I noticed that all the fish thickened up surprisingly quickly after that. Thanks to Redge we have added a wall of fame in our house for grandkids who catch 2 lb crappie. Today I was sharing fruit snacks with my 3 yo granddaughter, Maybell, when she looked up at that wall and said “ I’m gonna catch a big fish and get my picture up there”. We have 16 g kids- gonna need a bigger wall!

That's a great wall of fame, cc. And thank you for letting my grandkids (and an older relative) catch some big fish in that pond.

As I recall you helped me add a couple of big girls when we fished skiatook together.
