1/4 Oz Jig Heads
With these winds we have experienced the last few days and my inability to get my jigs very far, I rigged up a couple of quarter ounce jig heads and put Crappie Pro jigs on them. They sail through the air now and the wind doesn't knock them down. But I've never really used these large jig heads and I'm certain I've never caught a crappie while using them. I'm wondering if they are simply too big because yesterday I never got a bite after making the switch. Opinions or advice?

Jim I use them all the time or should I say on a daily basis. I use them vertical or pulling from the boat though. Never casting due to they sink so fast and I have to retrieve them much faster than I want to fish. If you are using them under a bobber they should work fine........Ranger

Had to use a large bobber to keep em from sinking....... worked really well, but I never could get the fish to cooperative yesterday. Had those two jigs floating right above a nice brush pile there at Bud's Point... close to the boat ramp, but never got a bite. Thanks for your feedback because this is something new for me to use these heavy jig heads.

Agree with these guys. I have never used that big a jig head until this spring. Weighted floats work great with these for long casts and slowing jig through strike zone.

i tied some 1/4 oz. jigs that were 4 inches long and used them at Carl Blackwell this winter. I put one on the bottom, with a 1/16 above it, thinking that I could get crappie and maybe one of those big old saugeyes. Surprise! Surprise! Some really nice crappie hit that big jig (black/chartreuse). Red/yellow also worked, but after three trips, they didn't seem to work as well.
