All the okies on here know my favorite March lake. I take the RV there for a couple weeks each year (unless weathered out - a March possibility.) I've had reservations there since early October. This year they are for 12-26 March at Little River campground. Pine Creek lake in southern Oklahoma. The bad news is there aren't cabins or motels close in the northern portion of the lake where I like to go. Down south, near the dam, there should be some near Valliant. There are also motels in Broken Bow, 30 minutes to the east.

With apologies to my OU friends, I would like to thank shortdraw for the black/orange jigs that he gave me. They have caught a lot of fish.

Because of weather, late March is a crap shoot in SE Oklahoma. Wister followed by Pine Creek are my favorites. But cold rain and flooding kills the fun. It seems to happen about 50% of the time that plans on this board are made LOL. Kaw is usually far enough west to be out of the firing line of early season moisture, but late march is early for that part of the state even if its warmer than normal. However, it can be spectacular for big fish if the pre-spawn fishing conditions are right. If you can, wait until the week before to reserve accommodations and remain flexible.

I've never fished Wister or Pine Creek but seeing your posts, I know they are great crappie lakes. They produce some big fish. With that said, we have fished a lot of lakes in Oklahoma and Arkansas over the years and have caught some big crappie. When Kaw is right, I would put it up against any lake there is. The problem on Kaw in March is the fish are starting to scatter and move to their spawning grounds, it can be the toughest lake in the country. We are usually in Arkansas then. I would love to see a crappie camp at Kaw around April 20th thru the first week of May. It would be nice to see you guys hit it when it's right. It would all depend on the lake conditions but that is prime time where everyone could catch fish. Just a thought.

I fish a lot of lakes in Oklahoma. Wister and Kaw have been the best big fish producers for me. Both have their moments were they are spectacularly good and sometimes when they are really frustrating. You should give Wister a try in spring when Kaw is in transition and fish are too scattered. If it isn't rained out, that is usually the time when Wister is at its peak for big fish. Here is a link to a page in the Wister archives. It gives a good idea what Wister can be like at times. That being said, my two best ever big fish days are from Kaw. https://www.crappie.com/crappie/ok-a...chives-13.html

And I could volunteer to put on the fish fry. Our last camp on Kaw got ruined by the wind and rain.

I've driven to Kaw 5 times. Every trip was ruined by wind and/or rain. Probably just my luck but each trip had a favorable weather forecast. That's why I didn't go to the last camp.

I agree Floyd seems like it always rains. It is hard in the spring to plan a trip anywhere way in advance.
