The Xi5 is the 1st trolling motor I've owned so I can't really compare it to anything. I've heard the Minn Kota in Youtube videos and it sounds loud. My friend has had several cable steer motors and I wasn't found of them do to their size. I have a 12' boat and space is limited. I was unsure if I really needed the GPS so my thoughts were to use it without it and if I do need it then spend the $449 for it at a later date. I've also read that the Xi5 makes corrections better when in lock mode than the Minn Kota. The Minn Kota starts up full blast whereas the Xi5 eases into it. Glad I could help Reaper.

A few years ago I had a remote steer MG. After a trip to the lake I always felt I was jerky and spastic like Frankenstein. Needless to say it was not smooth. It was convenient to operate the TM from the console or back of the boat but I went "old school" and have never regretted it. Hand operated MK Maxxum 80 lb thrust on the bow with an on/off foot operated switch. Geezers rule.:twocents

i have the terrova with i pilot and love it for any type of trolling and the spot lock works fine for me. The only thing i really hate about it is the foot controller when I'm bass fishing its a real pain in the &^^%%$$#. Have to push the thing to hard and not very responsive and you have to be careful you dont step on the constant button without realizing. I about slammed into a wall once when I stopped to retie a plug, at least i though i had stopped until i looked up and was 5 feet away from a seawall and had to hit the brakes and reach out and grab the wall before my trolling motor slammed into it. But if trolling is your main thing it cant be beat
