i know i have to get a couple of life jackets for the boat before i take it out but is there anything else i need in order to stay out of trouble?
i replace impellers at least every two years. they crack they slick over and harden. its fairly inexpensive to change, and well worth the piece of mind. and every year when you store it, remove all gas from bowls, remove spark plugs and shoot the cylinders with marine fogging oil, and turn over several times with plugs out, then replace plugs, keeps cylinders lubed up and no surface rust or rings sticking, ive had several motors ive got in the past with low compression on cylinders, because of frozen rings, amazing what a little fogging oil can do. and bass trackers are bad about the fuse panels rusting up, remove battery terminal and spray down with the electrical panel aerosol spray, will keep all the copper from hazing over and possibly causing bad connections. i had a 87 tracker that i had to rewire the panel because of corrosion.

CJ, you'll want to get a whistle, fire extinguisher, paddle, and type II and IV flotation device with a fairly long rope attached.
Here's a link to the Oklahoma boating handbook. It has all the requirements listed. Handbook of Boating Laws and Responsibilities - Oklahoma Boating License Laws and Safety Guide
If you look under the Oklahoma Info drop down menu, there is an equipment checklist.
