The problem we have seen in the past in both the spring and fall camps as far as fishing goes is the weather. It's the time of year when we have one front after another which some are big rain makers that raise the lake levels. It is what it is. I'm all about fishing new spots and exploring new options for our camps. It's not all about fishing which we all enjoy, but it's about friends, family, and rubbing elbows. If we are trying to draw straws and pick a lake that's on fire as far as fishing goes that's like drawing straws and hoping for the best. So far we have drawn the short straw during our spring and fall camps mostly. I will say I'm ready to build a fire and sit around it again with my buddy's........Ranger

I agree with Ranger in what the Camps are "it's about friends, family, and rubbing elbows". The Camps were started primarily to get Crappie fishermen together to discuss Crappie fishing and to meet each other. At this point, the only criteria for changing to a secondary lake are Lake conditions, such as extreme high water levels and/or extreme weather conditions at the Primary Lake. I realize that the term "extreme" can be interpreted several ways, however, the Camp Committee will always make decisions in the best interest of the folks that attend the Camps. The quality or quantity of the fishing, while great if the Crappie are biting, is not a factor for consideration in changing lakes. Making the decision to switch lakes will not be easy, due to advance campsite and motel reservations. Looking forward to Spring Camp in late March, 2017. PS...I like crappiepappa's idea of having "Renegade" impromptu Camps (FORTGIBSONBOY that means unplanned or spur of the moment decision). Not much prior planning....just get several folks together (by posting) ...rent a large cabin....and go fish. Hugo and Broken Bow would be great locations and I'm sure there's more. Someone take the lead on this.......I'll help as much as I can and will go with you....I like the idea! ...dave

Broken Bow would be an excellent choice for that time of year. Fish won't be hard to come by that time of year. Many cabins for rent and motel. All camp grounds are state owned unless you want primitive and that is up the river. I'll be off work March 29-Apr 4 hint.

Spring camps usually are very hard for me to make. But Broken Bow is an awesome lake and beautiful as well. If I could make it I certainly would......Ranger

FORTGIBSONBOY is getting ready for 2017 Spring Camp and this looks like a great boat to match his fishing skills

Dave, I don't think I could out fish him if he fished out of that boat! But now, if I could find and hide that big cooler, I've got a chance!!!

Just curious, perhaps I have missed it (I'm not very good at navigating this thing just yet) but has a decision been made as to when and where this Spring Crappie Camp will be held? It now being March, I kind of expected to see something on here close to definite. I'm not trying to be pushy or anything, I'm just excited to get into this community and possibly get myself and my son out to one of these camps, I've heard many good things about them and I am excited to go to one myself.

    Thanks,

    ~J. Babcock

Babweiner, we just got back from the Crappie Camp at Lake Hugo on Feb. 26th and we had been waiting to look at the campgrounds at Pine Creek Lake and Broken Bow to make a decision. Unfortunately, both lakes are experiencing lake level issues...Pine Creek is 15' high due to problems with the release system and Broken Bow is 8' low due to lake of rain. A decision on the Spring Camp location will be made either Monday (tomorrow) or Tuesday. Watch this Sub-Form for more information. Looking forward to meeting you....dave
