Oklahoma FallCrappie Camp Report
Sixteen Campers and ten daycampers found their way to Rocky Point Campgrounds at Ft.Gibson Lake for the first Oklahoma Annual Fall Crappie Camp. Each day the weather was perfect and the lake lived up to its reputation of being one of the best looking lakes in Oklahoma. The lake level rose approximately three feet during the Camp and the Crappie developed "lockjaw", however, this didn't discourage the dedicated group of Crappie fisherman from taking on the challenge to find and catch them.
The Friday night cookout consisted of all you could eat pinto beans, cornbread, fried okra, fried potatoes, onions and cooked apples. The food went too fast to get photographs! It was not a pretty sight watching several of our folks dig into the food.....(not mentioning any names...they know who they are). The Saturday cookout menu was fried Crappie, homemade hush puppies, fried okra, onions and more cooked apples.
In spite of the Crappie "lockjaw", the Fall Camp was a great success in terms of meeting new friends and being able to sit around the campfires and discussCrappie fishing . Everyone enjoyed meeting and talking to the Kansas Raiders that crossed the border to take part in the Camp.
Winter Camp is next and will be in late February. We are seriously looking at Hugo Lake and we are checking into renting the cabins and possibly the Lodge. Thanks to everyone that help make the Fall Camp a success......dave

Dave, thank you for your efforts in making the camp a reality! And thanks to all who provided food, drink, baits, boats and lots of all around good hospitality! It was an awesome time despite the fish "lockjaw". I enjoyed it immensely. And thanks to Slab for the shirts-- Love 'em!

DrNip... the Crappie that I caught on your bait is the larger one that Johnny Shad is holding up in the last photo. It is in his right hand. It looks like he is trying to smoke it!

I fish lakes that don't have black crappie so I never get to see them. I dreamed of catching one like yours but at least I got to see one in person. Wait until you fish when they don't have lock jaw. Better be prepared as thy inhale the bait!
