Stink, I'm off Friday....get ready we will eat breakfast and go find some crappie shallow. Brian is right on the money with the spawn running 2-3 weeks behind this year. With that many cold days it takes awhile to moderate. Plus the night temps need to come up more. Brian,...really enjoyed the show with you and Andy.

Fishers them crappie are just where you find em. When I said open water points I should of said points on the outside of coves in a creek. Does that sound better. Then headed back up into the coves and cut banks with cork n jig. Sorry for the confusion.......Ranger

Late Evening Report South End: I was late getting to my brush pile arrived around 7:00 am. Flipped a couple of males out of the water around that time. Across the cove, I saw another fisherman drag one to the bank. Myself, not using good judgement; stayed to the last minute as lighting was getting closer. Got a little scared, as I’m sure waving a 10’ graphite fly rod in the air was not a good idea at that time. After the thunder storm past the bite stopped for everyone in the area. The wind changed and was coming out of the east. Scientifically speaking “When the wind is from the east. The fish bite the least.” Cold front moved through and then the crappie moved out. Next question… is when to anticipate the crappie returning to the beach?

Watch out for this: Today while traveling today between McAlister and Atoka on Hwy 69. I counted 12 different police cars on the side of the highway that had people/vehicles pulled over with the red and blue lights turned on. This was about 10:00 am.

Would have posted earlier but have been cleaning and repairing fly reels this afternoon.

Scientifically speaking, wind out of the east, my rear. I love fishing an east wind! Your fish just went deeper is all. Keep searching and you'll figure out where they went. Cannot blame you at all for not wanting to wave the rod, nothing wrong with taking precautions. Welcome to Okie land Rick and the best of luck to you!

Just adding to law enforcement. . . I was stopped at the crowder boat ramp the other day by the highway patrol and they were doing boarding inspections. They were just warnings but I had 6 violations that would have cost 220 dollars if it was a ticket. Guess its time to get the old boat in compliance lol.

The world makes sense again, thanks Ranger. I went out again yesterday. Caught a lot of fish (maybe 50 or so) not many big females. Same places I have been fishing, mid lake coves and creeks mostly right on the bank. Last part of the day I moved out to the breaks off the spawning banks and tried to find more consistent big fish, didn't help.

Also the areas of the lake will be later than the creeks. The man that taught me never caught them real good on the bank until the last week of April to the first 3 weeks in May. He fished them every year since 1966. His multiple 100 fish days were always mostly in May. So be patient guys, we are just now hearing of fish being caught all over the lake.

Fishers, females will be on the points most of the time in a little deeper water than the depth of the beds. They are only on the beds for 36hrs anyway, and they dont stay, they move on and off till they lay there eggs. Thats why the minnow fisherman, spider riggers, and double dippers catch more of the big females

    I hope I helped EB
Thanks EB, good info. The creeks may be winding down mid lake and north. I have fished 2 recently and they are holding a lot less big females than a week ago and especially two weeks ago.
