My old standby was always along the old highway north of Eufaula. There is a flat that runs out there that they should be on this time of year. We always caught them there trolling if they weren't surfacing. Often we would just drag jigs, longlining of sorts, and do fine.

The old road bed wasn't producing this past friday. they weren't surfacing and I trolled all the way to the bridge several tmes and at different depths, only caught one keeper.

Hotter than H
Is anyone catching boiled crappie?
-
No catching them down deeper where its cooler.
-
I quit keeping them until after Labor Day. The last two trips (Thunderbird and Eufaula) I immediately put them on ice and they still tasted parboiled. And, they were caught deep. Winter and Spring are my favorite times to load the freezer.

I got to go out Saturday evening for a little while. We caught 12 keepers out of timber in 8-12fow. Lots of small ones, we didn't catch a fish on the bridges. We were kentucky rigging minnows. Towards the evening the fish pulled up shallow!

I have been catching good fish over the last couple of weeks, mostly on rip-rap 10 fow, some on trees 10-14 fow. Not big numbers, but enough to make me endure the heat (yes, even before the "cooler" weather). One of my fishing partners caught a limit of good fish on trees on August 2nd. Beavertails, pumpkin/orange (spike dipped), black pink, pearl pink.

what trees and rip rap J.D.?

I'd just have to show you ;)

Sample from yesterday. Most were off the trees in 11-12 fow, mostly on pearl/pink and bruise (black/blue) Beavertails. Ended up with 26 good fish. They were going pretty good mid morning, but that little front seemed to shut them down mid day.

Ole Bugle Lips liked the dipped Beavertail.
