The sloughs off the Wa****a river are dynamite for big slabs, Rock creek, Bell creek, House tops, cumberland, etc. Keep posting for us, we have kicked around bringing the CDC trail down that way maybe get some of those good TX fisherman in there with us. Eufaula Boy, I know the river you are talking about! The Wa****a? I did fish Little Glass/Big Glasses arm yesterday and also two weeks ago. We didn't have the numbers but, boy we sure found some nice slabs. One thing I was surprised about, the fish we caught are slimmer than I was used to in texas lakes. I measured one that was 14 1/2 inches and only weighed 1.3 lbs! Had a couple of others in the 14" range that just didn't weight what I expected. I'm thinking a fish that long should weigh at least 2 pounds?
I've been fishing with Bobby Russell. He is on the forum but, don't think he ever posts and I don't know his screen name. But, he is a local lifelong resident big time crappie addict and talks about the creeks, Housetops, Cumerland and Butcherblock all the time. In fact, he is heading there this morning. (I have a previous commitment or I'd be with him.)
I've yet to find any good numbers. Each day we only fish about 3 to 4 hours and each day only have between 15 to 18 crappie.
All nice fish, just not the numbers I hoped for.
I'd sure be game for either a summer camp or the CDC tournament! Like EB said above, Texoma is an overlooked gem for big crappie. I'm thinking my chances are much better of catching that elusive 3+ pounder here! I've only fished the Little/Big Glassed and Newberry Creek arms of the lake so far. Both offer nice marinas, good ramps and are situated to be able to fish in a south or north wind. I hope to fish more areas real soon.

Okie bob, my parents live in Dickson and i was going to go visit them this weekend and was thinking bout taking my boat and going to texoma with my dad. I have never crappie fished that lake, so any pointers on what technique to use or where to locate them would be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty new to Texoma myself but, I'd recommend putting in at Little Glasses Marina. Leaving the ramp, go east, around the point and north up into the Glasses arm of the lake. On your left, you'll see some plastic and noodle lines floating in a line as you go all the way around the point. Go look at each jug, they are marking brushpiles, fish them all until you get bit. I'd use anything with chartruse, either plastic body or hand tied jigs, the more chart, the better. That's what I'd do.
Good luck and please let me know if this has been help.
Oh, once you leave that area, head NW across that arm of the lake and you'll see some more jugs, check everyone out and you'll be glad you did!

Thank you, that should give us a good starting point. No better way to spend some father son time than catching crappie. Thanks again for the info. I'll let you know how we do if we end up getting to go, if our dang jobs dont get in the way.

OkieBob, those Texas boys do really good on the Texas side as well Ive fished against some of theose guys for years. Wally and Jeff, Paul Obeir, Mcaffery, Doolittle, good crappie fisherman. Theres a creeek arm down there that they all love, Big Mineral and little Mineral I think its called. Texoma is so big like Eufaula you need a few years to learn the whole lake. EB

EB, obviously I know Wally and have heard of the others but, don't personally know them. And you are right, the texas guys mostly fish Big Mineral from what I hear from them. Right now, I am concentrating on the north side of the lake. It's like Eufaula, so big it will take a long time to learn. But, hey, that's what it's all about to me, learning to be a better crappie fisherman!
Heading to Butcherpen this morning and maybe hit Housetop. Would try Kansas Creek but, understand it is dry. Also hope to get into
Hickory Creek as I hear it is a honey hole in the spring!

Well, Bobby and I went to Butcherpen earlier this week. Beautiful area and it has silted in so no longer connected to Texoma. Max depth I found was 6' and it appears to be a few feet low. WT was 70, we had some light sprinkles and cloud cover but, a beautiful day to be on the water.
Fished a number of great piles we found. Caught 16 total, cleaned 9. Believe all were caught on Mr Crappie 'shadpoles' in some combo of chartruse. Only fished about 3 hrs starting at daybreak. Went by 'housetops' on the way home. Strange looking place. Very shallow water, in most cases coming up about midway of the windows. There are about a dozen houses, all with flat roofs, that were flooded when Texoma was formed. I understand you wade out to one of the houses, go inside and fish out of the windows or carry a ladder out with you and fish from the roofs. The houses appear to be all concrete construction. Water and wave action appears to have created washouts/holes next to the exterior walls which make ideal crappie habitat, at least for the spawn. There is a ramp but, currently unusable except for maybe john boats.

Leaving Butcherpen, go north towards Tishamingo and look to the west as you get close to Tish. You can see some of the roof tops but, you missed the turnoff. It is marked but, I can't recall what it is marked. It is just a short way from the main road to Tish to the ramp. But, again, it's probably too low even to launch a small boat except for maybe a jon boat.
I didn't fish it so can' comment on it.
One other thing I'd like to remind everyone in OK, Wally Marshall's yearly tournament in Hugo, next May. No exact dates yet but, it's a great fun tourney, very family oriented.

I've got in on next year's calendar. Let us know when Wally gets the dates firmed up. I enjoyed seeing photos of this years event.
