the crappie on sardis is harder to pattern. we use to catch a lot around jack fork bridge but it is hit and miss now. Anderson creek is one of the best areas and back in the narrows produces pretty good. but like iken said there is a lot of humps and submerged structure for them to hide in. but it is a pretty lake to live near.

Fished Sardis Wed. It was off color in most the lake from heavy rains. That is one big lake to have to drive all over to find fish. Finally found good water conditions in the far east side. Found a big pile to save the day in the last hour or so. Pulled out sporadic fish throughout the day but that last pile produced 15 to 20 quick fish. Nothing huge, biggest fish were about 1.5 lbs. That lake has a ton of dense standing timber. First 2 screen shots are from Sardis. The last one is actually from Wister. I was wondering if anybody knew what the round things are. They sit on the south side of Quarry Island. Name: shot 22.jpg

I would love to see an image of the big pile that saved the day if you have one. Just hoping to see what a hungry school of crappie looks like if they show up on screen.

What brand and model of depth finder are you running? Those are nice DI and SI captures.

It's been many a year since I was involved in photogrammetry but it appears to me to be more than just the round objects. There appears to be a line extending from those objects all the way to the bottom of the image (hard to see on the right side.) A short distance from the round objects something appears to be suspended from the line creating a shadow of whatever it is. need a diver (or camera) to go look at it. Many decades ago there was a floating ski ramp anchored near Quarry Island (I can't remember just where.) Who knows?

Floyd, I agree, they look like an anchor of some sort, possibly a 5 gallon bucket of concrete with a cable attached? Follow the line and it looks like something else possibly attached to the cable also. Yes, it would be nice to have a camera or diver to know what it really is!
And for the guy that didn't know, the unit is a Lowrance HDS.

Fished Sardis yesterday. A beautiful day on the water. I dont think it got above 85 degrees. The fishing was very good in most the places that I fished. I started on piles in 20 FOW and in 16 FOW in main lake areas, caught lots but all were short so I pulled out and headed to the main lake timbered areas. Caught better size fish immediately in 17-20 FOW . Wind picked up a bit so I headed up lake to some coves out of the wind. I found an area that had a thermocline. The large cove has extensive shallow flats on either side of a deep channel. The temp on the flats was 88-90, out in the main lake it was in the low 80's. I am not sure how thermoclines form, but I think the big temp difference from the flats may be able to initiate it. It was the only place on the lake I noticed a thermocline, and it was a relatively small zone, about 300 yards of the channel. Anyway, it had set up at 15 feet and the fish were stacked in there just above it on wood and along the channel edge. I fished my jigs at 12 feet deep and just killed them. Water vis was about 18 inches. Nothing huge but lots of fish between 1 and 1.5 LBS. It didnt matter what I used, they hit everything I threw at them. Caught LGMB's and cats too, everything was chowing down on shad just above that thermocline.

One of the most dangerous lakes in America.

I have seen more boats swamped ...
The mountains act like wind tunnel or something.
