Fished with woodworker yesterday. We ended up keeping around 20. Nothing over 13 inches. Brought minnows but jigs really worked better. It was a wet day out there, had to bilge out the rain water 3 times. Fished the same pattern as last time. It was good to meet woodworker, he is a trooper to put up with the rain and lightning out there with me.
Woodworker will be kicking rocks at Keystone now.
Fishers, thanks for the trip! It was a good time-even if it did get a little damp! After I got them bagged up, we actually had 21. CrapA-you're right; Skiatook has acres and acres of standing timber. The lake will surely be a lot different if it ever fills to normal. It fished pretty good at it's current level. Fishers, thanks for the "magic jig; you da man! Def got to go back soon!
Ok now WW- don't tease us like that. Give it up on the "magic jig" ! Glad you guys were able to fight thru the opposition of the elements and bag some fish. How many more do you need to feed the camp Woodman?
I would like to know what it took to get WW to quit sticking his hands in the bait bucket? :dono
Well, the bait really just wasn't working so... The jig is one I get from Winganon. Its Big, orange and Chart and with a black head. Its about as visual as a crappie jig can be. I think somebody specially makes it for him, I have never seen them anywhere else. WW, it was a pleasure meeting and fishing with you.
Bring one to camp and show it to me on the sly like. I'd like to see if I can come close to tying it:-)
Pappa, I'll bring one for you to check out. It's a big bait! and don't worry, I still had my bucket of shiners!
Crappiepappa and I hit Skiatook yesterday. We were on the way to Oologah and took a look at the wind forecast and changed our minds. It was by no means spectacular but we had a great time, we found fish to catch in a lot of the places that we checked, and we checked a lot of places. Pappa was probably thinking "does this guy ever actually fish?" I blame it on the finder, its just fun to drive around look at stuff. The fish were of a better quality size than any of my previous trips to Skiatook, broader shoulders, deeper top to bottom and longer, about 13 inches. The lake temps and thermocline were all over the map. When we got there it was 76 when we left it was 81.5. We found the bigger fish shallow, in 4-8 feet of water on structure sitting at 2-3 feet deep. They seemed to prefer chartreuse color jigs. Kept 12, only 5 shorts thrown back, but if we had seriously fished we would have done much better. Attachment 174138Attachment 174139
