    Default West Branch crappie

I crappie fish this lake in NEO on a weekly basis from ice out in early March to the snow and salt flies in late November. The best musky lake in the state and fast becoming the best crappie lake too.

Saw this on a local bait shop fb page. A true slab especially for Ohio

Last Saturday we caught 208 crappie along with half a dozen gills, 3 channels and this big momma.

As my buddy was reeling in a crappie I looked over to this thing came up like a great white going after a seal. It missed but splashed the whole front of the boat including my buddy, his phone and smokes. What a rush. About an hour later his pole goes down hard and wraps the rod around the bottom of the hull. That fish comes up and wow, it's the musky. I reel in all the lines and grab the net I use for walleye and bass when I used to fish for bass. The fish gets turned around and I scoop it up on the first try. 8lb test mono dropshotting a crappie rig I make. Ruined my 20yo net and crappie rig. was worth it though. The net took a piece of flesh off the top of his gill plate. Boat looked like a murder scene.

As far as I know it survived. It was in the boat for maybe 30 secs before it went back in. It swam away very vigorously. But with water temps at ~77 degrees...well. On the plus side we were lucky and it was netted very fast. Wasn't tired out at all.
    I sure hope it survived.

I spoke to a guy while fishing WB this past Saturday. He was familiar with this above 3.1lb crappie but stated it was not caught at WB but was caught at a nearby private lake. Lake Hodgson is owned by the city of Ravenna and is a pay to fish lake and it was here that that crappie was actually caught. Bait shop trying to drum up additional business....

My buddy and I caught 82 crappie and NO muskie this past Saturday. Kind of a slow day compared to the past several weeks.
Thanks chaunc thanked you for this post

I'm amazed at what some people will do or say about fishing.
