    Default Acton 5/10

Report is a few days late, but went out Thursday to Acton.

First time in about 5 years since I hadn't done much for crappie there and it's quite a drive for me being in N.KY.

Anyway - got there early afternoon and wind was absolutely brutal. We moved to the other side of the lake where we were a little sheltered and thankfully the wind died down as the day went on.

They are starting the spawn. I'm sure this is the same across all the area lakes now.
We were doing pretty good in 5 feet of water around brush but the best fishing was putting a cork on a jig and fishing only a foot down and casting as far into the bank as we could. White female had eggs and the males were darkened up.

Average size was pretty darn good. We caught some dinks and the largest was around 13" but most fish were between 10" - 12".

Sorry no pics. Everything was catch and release.

It was amusing to watch a raccoon along the bank trying to catch some of the male crappie who were in there splashing around in a foot of water. He never did get one as far as I could see.

Thanks for the report, actaully we just got off the lake, 75 degree h20 temp? Wth is it mothers day or the 4th of july! We caught a variety of sizes which is great for up comming years, but I would say we had about a 50/50 keeper ratio. I agree the spawn is about to start, males had there tuxes on , but there tails werent worn down and females were plump, lets hope the weather stays consistent for another good spawn this year.

I live just across border in Indiana about 10 min from Acton but haven’t been there in years. Is it still 10 hp lake and if so what are the rules about running big motor such as loading and such. I thought I read a couple years ago they were thinking of changing it to where you could idle with big motor but didn’t here anymore.

Yes you can now run a 10+hp motor at idle, I wish Liberty memorial was the same.

That’s good to hear maybe I’ll give it a try... yes would be nice if Whitewater would change too but doubt if it will. Thanks for the info.

John, I did mean Whitewater memorial. Here is a pic of a male I caught at Acton yesterday, he has his spawning colors for sure and the females were nice and plump. We kept 20 fishing minnows and jigs under bobbers, could of easily limited. Name: 20180513_200211.jpeg
