I don’t fish it often but I have caught some ok crappie there in the past . I’ve never got slabs in numbers out of there. It’s overrun with white perch some walleye get caught there from time to time. I’ve seen some very large channel cats come out of there. Lots of guys refer to it as La don’t .

It’s a nice lake but not a productive venture when it comes to catching good size crappie in numbers in my opinion . Depending how far your willing to travel there are many other options that offer good kayak fishing options in NE Ohio. I’ve pretty much fished them all.

If you came further west there are some good options. West branch is good but lots of boat traffic after Memorial Day. Mogadore reservoir is nice electric only lake great fishing from a kayak guys complain about the fish being stunted at mogadore but honestly I’ve never had a problem catch quality fish there. Another thing about mogadore is there are no limit restrictions there you can catch and keep as many as you want no matter the size. Also some of the biggest yellow perch in the area can be caught there in good numbers. There’s good fishing at nimisilla reservoir 742 acre electric only lake lots of 9-10” cookie cutter fish there from my experiences but have caught a few real good slabs from time to time. Portage lakes which is where I’m from has good fishing but unless you want to deal with a bunch of pleasure boaters avoid the main chain unless it’s early spring or late fall. There are smaller lakes in the portage chain long lake and north reservoir that are no wake lakes which are very nice to fish from small vessels. Hopefully this information is helpful to you in finding some new water to try out.

Best of luck out on the water wherever you end up.

Glad I could help. I may give you a shout this fall I plan on checking out shenango. If you decide to come to the portage area, mogadore or nimisilla shoot me a pm I fish them regularly. I’ll let ya know what the productive program is at the time.

I fish at mogadore all the time. The crappie are very good in that lake. 10 to 14 inches is not uncommon. It is trolling motor only and there are a good variety of fish. Perch, redear bluegill, sunfish, largemouth bass, channel and flathead cats that get really big if you are into that. No limit because it is a city owned lake. Lots of kayak people use the lake. Many of them do fish it too. Hope that helps you.
