    Default Thank you

I look and post on a few other outdoor sites but have to say Thank you to the Virginia guys on the site. Some one has always tried to answer my questions and have been very respectful to my post as well. Wife and I used to spend a lot of time in the Williamsburg area do to my in laws living there. However they are 95 and 96 so we do go to visit but there is not a lot we can do with them so our visits are just that. In the past 40 plus years I have had the opportunity to wet a line in both salt and fresh water. Sometimes fishing was great sometimes it was a learning experience. My last trip was in March. Perhaps some remember February and early March was warm. Almost record breaking for atleast a month. A good friend of mine and myself decided to take a 3 day trip for some crappie fishing. This was his first trip. Four of five days before the temperature dropped 20 degrees. We drove to Beaver swamp Dam park arriving around 9:30. Those spring Easter flowers were in full bloom and a refreshing sigh that we were in the right place at the right time.Wrong! There was about 1/2 inch of snow covering everything with wind blowing and freezing temperatures. We decided to go over to the park office and got to talk to the gals in the office. They were very friendly and gave some good advice. Basically come back in a day or two. We did that and rented one of the park boats with our motor and battery. We fished the cove she suggested was hot for crappie a week before. after 2 plus hours not a bite. It was apparent those fish had moved to warmer water. To this point our hoagie and coffee was the high lite of the morning. We decided to change gears and looked for some deeper water with a bank to warm the water as it was a bright sunny day. About a hour had gone by as we cast out small jigs with 6 lb. line and both of us were starting to realize that today was going to be a learning experience. Well Todd hooked his jig on the bottom and asked me to reverse the motor the try to remove the jig. Oh Sh-- I think I have a fish. About ten minutes later I netted a 5 lb, largemouth. That was the only fish we caught but the girls took a picture of him with the fish. we tried the next day on some other water and did not set the world on fire. I was sure this would be Todd's last Va trip. I mentioned going next year last week and his reply was I hope we go back to Beaver Swamp res. I was sure he would never go back as his time is very limited with work and family. It is amassing that perhaps that one special fish can be so positive. Also I think it may have been the good company from both sides. Thank you, Tony

Bill My post was for many but you and a half dozen others have been very good with honest information. I am a pa flyfishing guide and see false or somewhat embellished reports on a regular basics. Also reading stories in the magazines should be taken with a grain of salt. As I get older my health is not as good as in my younger days. A good days fishing used to be a all day event however a few hours or 1/2 day seems to be more the normal currently. I look forward to some cooler weather and better fishing in days to come.
