I agree that the fine will be steep. BUT, these guys put themselves in this position. They knew what they had done. In all probability, this wasn't their first rodeo. In my opinion they have earned every last cent of their fines, and or, jail time. As the old saying goes. "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime". I have very little sympathy for those that deliberately set out to break the law.

Sorry guys,,,I guess I’m with the little guys on this one,,,,,,sometimes a law being broke out of the law of necessity, outweighs the law of the land,,,so the question lies with the lawbreakers,,, did they do it because they needed food, or because of creed?
My grandfather taught me alot what it was like growing up in the depression,,,he was a inshore commercial fisherman and had to abide by the laws of the land on a daily basis,,,later in his life he was elected warden of the local herring run area back home on Cape Cod,,,, people would come for miles to get their daily bucket of herring for food,or for whatever they used their fish for,,some would take more then allowed and some less,,, he didn’t harass the people who took it for food because he knew it was done out of necessity and not just creed,,,he became well known and loved throughout our county and was known as Captain,,,not because he was a sea captain or merchant marine like his fathers father all were before him, but because they respected him ….

Stop making excuses for these criminals. If our judicial system worked the way it is supposed to we wouldn't have murders released with very little punishment. Every body wants to make out that the criminals aren't responsible for their crimes. Bul s**t!!!. We aren't in a depression. No excuses. Hammer them now and maybe they won't do it again. But I doubt it. Criminals are the dumbest of the dumb.

@Takeum out if necessity for what? Food? I can eat Mayne 5 or 6 Crappie in a sitting so that was at least 10 sittings over a 1 man's meal. Necessity means I need it now not hoarding for the future. Your dad sounds like was a great guy. He gained that respect by being FAIR not letting greed and absolute disrespect run over him. These guys knew what they were doing and if my math is right the fine will be about $26000. Not many judges going to fine someone that much. They deserve the fines and $26000 in no way relates to a murderous felony charge as you hinted to. These guys should not only be fines but lose their fishing privileges for long enough that it sinks in that stupid is as stupid does.

I don't know how I feel about giving discounts on the fine the more fish you are over, seems kinda backwards to me. Don't do the crime if you can't pay the fine.
