There are a couple of houses in my neighborhood that have metal, I've never felt like they looked out of place. And I've never noticed any paint fade, we've been here 12 years and both houses had the metal roofs before we moved to the neighborhood so at least 12 years old and they both still look good.

It does lock you in to a paint scheme though. The houses in my neighborhood are mostly brick but if they ever wanted to repaint doors or trim they will be limited to colors that will look good with the color on the roof. I know on of them is green because its just a couple doors down from me, I think the other one near the front of the neighborhood is a dark maroon color.

I have done metal roofing since 1998 and we have never had to replace a screw yet! No Leaks yet! Metal looks like it fades but it just needs cleaned! A lil bleach and pressure washing or chemically cleaned once ever few year keeps it looking good! Just like washing a house down!

We had a metal roof and awnings put on our house about ten years ago and I have no complaints so far. There's nothing like the sound of rain on a metal roof when you go to bed at night... but by the same token... too heavy of rain or hail will almost deafen you on the other extreme. We also put a (vented) air space between the original roof and the new exoskeleton (frame), which really helped Heating & Air Conditioning (insulation value) too. I have no issues in any way with structural integrity, maintenance or fading so far.

Check out sheffieldmetals.com for some good info on metal roofs. The standing seam is the way to go ! If you have any chance of tree damage to the roof I would remove the tree ! Replacement of panels is costly on these type roofs. Depending on the roof can you use partial metal and shingles both. I like the metal on porches. I would be sure and strip off the old shingles too.
That being said I'm replacing my roof with architectural shingles.

we have a ancient house built in 1840's we renovated and put shingles on the kitchen addition but original building has like 3 layers of ancient shingles on it but it doesn't leak and we are only there a few weekends a year so not worth the expense. But when neighbor did theres they did metal and was surprised at the price, which was a lot less than we thought so now we are tempted.

seems like metal would be the way to go BAA's.
