    Default Trolling motor mounting question

I searched and didn’t see an answer to my question.

I see some mount trolling motor so when it’s deployed it’s in the center of the boat and some mount it parallel to the side (on John style boat or mod-v’s). Is this just preference or what works best on your boat.

My thinking is on the side of boat it would make the boat want to run to one side at a slight angle but should run a straight line still. Am I right or just over thinking? Mounting mine down one side of my pro17 would make it easier to stow/deploy and boarding boat at/after launch and retrieve without moving or removing t-bars.

I always mount my Terrova, Rip Tide , or Ulterra on the starboard side and have the shaft across the bow so when they motor is deployed, it is on the port side as close to the center-line as possible. I run 60 inch shaft motors so this set-up lets me keep the head and foot as protected as possible.

That’s how mine is currently but I have to turn my t-bars to clear motor when stowing or deploying. I’m running a hand controlled bow mount currently and it not as bad as the cable steer foot controlled motor was. Wrestling the motor, t-bars and cable was a hassle by myself.

I have mine mounted straight with the boat and 12 inches off center....it tracks great....can stow and deploy without rod holders being in the way.

Here is how I have mine mounted on 17ft wareagle stick steer. Which is very similar to how G’s is mounted. I have never had a minutes trouble with tracking and I have run G’s and his tracks fine.
