    Default SI setups

I've always been a fisherman that fishes the same holes that I know over and over. If they are not biting there then I go home. With that being said, I am still in the stone age with electronics that have been on my boat since the early 2000's. Just an old Eagle that will show depth and water temp. I see everyone upgrading to Livescope and I am obviously not ready for that that but I want to get a unit up front where I sit that will show some good mapping on Okatibbee and The Rez to help me follow creek channels(especially on Okatibbee that creek is small) and maybe find stumps and structure on the ledge on Barnett.
All the Hummingbird Helix 7's I see comes with Trans Mount. Would SI be good to have on the trolling motor or just get a DI with good mapping and then put the SI at the Trans?

macpappy if you buy a new Helix they come with a trans mount but you can take the unopened transducer and trade it to Humminbird for a TM transducer. I run a helix 9 Si mega on my TM and really like it up there. I can see everything out beside me when i'm trolling around and move to it easily. I also run a 998 Si combo at the consul linked to a 1158 up front that I run my map on for waypoints and navionics map.If you are using SI I would recommend a 9" to see more detail and see fish better. its also better for when you are using split screen to see it better. It all up to how you fish and what works best for your type of fishing.

It would probably work except for side image you need to travel at 4 to 7 mph and you could not turn the trolling motor while side imaging. How about use the transom mt and use a helix mount that you could turn the helix display around to see down image from the front. I use a cheaper unit up front but it does not have map capability. iPhone and Navionics will work too.....

kids bought me a lowrance SI and hate having trans mount as it doesn't really give me what I am looking for so going to rig a bracket to put it up front with my TM and seats on pontoon and keep my smaller FF on console to see more general information.

So they have TM mounts you can get for your SI units? I would like that better. Thanks for the thread.

You don’t have to go 4 mph to use SI.

With the ability in HB units to adjust Chart scroll speed - SI works very well at slow speeds ...

Go with at least a 9” bird, so you can run split screen. ( you can thank me later) My bird on trolling motor has SI , butI’m not talented enough to use it effectively there . I like SI on transom because it’s fixed. DI works good on trolling motor, and Lakemaster+ mapping is awesome!!

Just my opinion, but I think SI is better utilized as a scanning tool at the console with a transom mounted ducer. You then are able to mark waypoints and further investigate with 2d or DI to dial in. My SI 9 Mega is optimum running idle speeds at 3.5 mph with the big motor for side scanning and covering water quickly. It's all to do with chart speed and settings, you can run slower or a little faster no doubt and dial it in. The bigger units have better resolution and processors. I'm not a fan of SI on the TM but that's just me. I know a few that utilize it effectively, depends on style of fishing mostly.

I run a helix-9 SI (gen 1 ) and a helix-7 DI gen 3 mega chirp on trolling motor . Should be very similar to your needs as I am not to far removed from "Eagle fish ID " units . I have used si on trolling motor , but since I have to get up anyways , it's no big deal . I use the find it on the side image , mark it, throw out buoy. go to front ,take down image to get a closer look .Name: 20191031_151917.jpg
