    Default Trolling motor interference

Yesterday while at the Rez, my new Helix 7 mounted at the bow started acting up. I have had it for a couple months now and have fished about twice a week without any issues. Suddenly, about mid morning, every time I touched the trolling motor button the sonar, DI, and SI would go berserk. Obvious trolling motor interference, but why? I inspected everything for any damage and found none. Called HB while still on the water and they suggested a ferrule to which I wrap my transducer cable around. Any help or advice will be appreciated. Thanks Feesh.

This can happen if the fish finder is wired to the TM batterys...Always wire direct to cranking battery......and it can still sometimes happen...one fix is to take your two wires gong from your fish finder to your cranking battery and slightly twist them together full length.....this is called a twisted pair..... most of the time this will cure the problem. If not then what HB suggested is the next step.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

I had a similar problem with my bow lowrance unit. I ran a ground wire from the negative terminal of the cranking battery to the negative terminal of the last battery for the trolling motor (the one that goes on to the trolling motor). That helped

Chris, pull head cover and check to see if that little fuse under the cover is blown. Check the wiring connections on trolling motor plug to make sure they are good and tight. Also check where transducer plugs into back of unit for a solid connection. Any loose connection can cause interference especially all of a sudden like this. Also where ever you have your power wires attached double check those connections. A slightly loose ground could also cause this.

Got one on every power cable I have up front. They work!!! Might get the Minn Kota TMK-1 inline noise filter also. They work great. Put it directly on the TM power cables.
