    Default Knowledge requested.

My trolling motor got slammed into the bottom of the pier today partially breaking the mount on my trolling motor for my HD down image transducer. I wrapped electrical tape around it to secure it temporarily. Probably went around 15 to 20 times.

    Two questions.
One. Do you think the electrical tape will have a significant effect on how the unit works. I’ll be honest I mostly use it just for sonar more than down imaging.
Two. I want to Epoxy it back together. Any specific brand recommendations that someone may have used for this or similar situation

Check out a product called Transducer Shield and Saver and save yourself the hassle of epoxy. Plus it will never break again.

Jim, here is what I have used several times. If done by the instructions it holds up pretty darn good. Follow cleaning instructions on package. I usually start by sanding edges at break. Clean then use a small amount to get it set where it’s supposed to be. Then sand and clean again just doing a little larger area. I’ll put about 3 coats on making it a little larger each time recovering original break each time. Just take your time and let it set good each coat.

You can epoxy it and it will work fine....til you hit another stump. That shield and saver is a permanent fix. And it just what it says: saver. Repairs broken transducers and shields it from further damage.

What I did was drill 4 -5 holes close enough to make a new slot . Do this on both sides and you are good to go . Can text picture ,when I get down to boat shed .

X3 on the shield and saver. Money well spent. The epoxy Cray speaks of will hold it good

Send me link if you can. I find several from 40 to 200 dollars. Cabelas has one but want to get a good one

I don’t know how to send a link but I know they are transducer specific. The official name is Transducer Shield and Saver. Bass Pro or Cabela’s should both have them.
