One way that CWD could spread to Mississippi is cross the Tennessee border. There have been several deer test positive just north of the TN-MS border. The season has been extended to reduce the deer population in 3 counties where the positive test have been identified.

Been dealing with this extensively here in MO. for several years. All feeding/minerals/ licks of any kind have been virtually made illegal. Once started, CWD can spread thru a deer population like wild fire. ANYTHING that can be done to help fix this is worth the effort, IMO. MY suggestion to MO Conservation at a meeting, was to test certain drugs to see if licks, minerals, etc. could be treated with, or infused, in order to help stop the disease, or cure infected animals. Haven't heard back yet, but I DO know it is being looked into. CWD IS an issue. Don't wait till it becomes a PROBLEM before you address it. Get out in front quick.....DO NOT dismiss this, or take it lightly, just cause it isn't a problem YET!!

My bet is that Mississippi will drag around for a couple of years wasting money, having meetings and hiring expensive consultants. Then make a knee jerk reaction in the complete opposite direction of what needs to be done.

I do not think this will be the case, truly hope not. I was at a meeting before the first case was found in Mississippi and was wondering "why are they even talking about this" to myself as the meeting went on. Low and behold a few months later the first case was discovered in Issyquena County, the had a plan and implemented it immediately and now have check stations set up for us to use.

You are right, Rees. They had a plan for sure and implemented it immediately. They went over and shot about 500 deer off the road and have been testing as many as they can get their hands on. But what’s the PLAN?? They stopped the supplemental feeding (pronounced baiting) in a 25 mile radius but really have no plan as to what to do. I don’t know if there is anything that can be done. It’s Mother Nature doing her thing. Maybe they should get the global warming people in on it. They sure fixed that in a hurry.

Don't know the answer either just know it is here. Saw a deer killed last week that had warts all over it, some busted open, but I do not think it was anything to do with CWD. Think it was being tested though.

Alabama has started requesting hunters to submit deer for testing in the 3 NW counties so I figure we’re just a few weeks away from having our first confirmed case. I’ve been studying this disease for quite a while. I don’t tnink there is a good solution available. The effected states will do something even if they aren’t certain that it will work.

I can remember when you had to have livestock to plant what we call food plots . It had to be normal agricultural practice .

    Default CWD Marshall county

I bet CWD has been around for a long while here and there. Nobody even checked for it until the hype started on it. THERE WILL NOT BE A WAY TO STOP THE SPREAD FEEDING YOUR DEER OR NOT!!! Mother Nature will spread it through farming, acorn production, bucks traveling around during the rut, etc. I guess we can get our deer herds to stop crossing State, County, or City boundary lines.

We can’t even buy real deer urine in AR. That’s Crazy!!! No better protected and vetted deer herds in the country than those.

Lets gossip on Asian carp or zebra mussels. SMHCWD Marshall county
