What's scary is....we do not know how many deer died from it this summer.

While attending a speach given by Governor Bryant this afternoon I had opportunity to visit with Wildlife Commissioner Cossar. While we talked he received a text informing him of a third confirmed case of CWD at the Mahhana WMA. I'm sure I butchered the spelling of that. This is getting serious.

Is it legal to bait deer in Mississippi?
Yes but don't think that is as big an issue, only been legal a short time. Third case is in the same county as the first one last January, the second case was a young deer and it is thought to have been infected by the doe that had it. The second case is also very close to 3 hi fence operations and they are awaiting results from DNA test that will give them an idea if it was a native deer or not. The first case last January was a native deer.

The MDWFP November newsletter I got by email Thursday said the 2nd confirmed case of CWD in North MS was from Ponotoc county on October 8th this year. They have setup a CWD management zone in Ponotoc, Union and Lee counties.

hate to hear that. thats probably the worst place it could start up too. when we have floods on the river it congregates the deer. they actually close the season in sharky and issaquena county occasionally when that happens. big congregations of deer in a small area is how it spreads. supplemental feeding isn't the cause. the only reason they discourage that is because it puts multiple deer in a confined space on a regular basis.
