Get the one with timer. It will replenish with fresh water forcing old out overflow. Recirculating pump is mainly for when your running down the lake for long distances.
I have to replace an old livewell aerator that is no longer working. I知 trying to decide on a new pump with a timer switch on it (1 minute on and 3 minutes off type thing) or a recirculating pump. It seems that the timer would be simplest. Are there any advantages to the recirculated route? I知 not a tournament fisherman so keeping every fish alive all the time is not a huge priority.

Be safe and good luck fishing
Not always good. In the summer its best to fill your livewell first thing in the morning with the cooler water and only recirculate adding a little ice to keep it cool throughout the day. Honestly if I aint tourney fishing, they going on ice. The longer that theyre cold, the easier they are to clean.
