Default Fishing tackle dealers and CC theft .

I usually won’t order from any place that doesn’t accept PayPal as payment, to protect my credit card number from being stolen.
But, in the last three months,I broke my rule three times and got burned twice .
Two times I used the same dealer , the other is a sponsor here at CDC .
These dealers used some kind of security software that evidently has been compromised.
I wish I could just walk in to a local shop and pickup what I need , but nobody around here carries what I needed .
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Shouldn’t we be told of who the CDC sponsor was, to protect the rest of us? I too, prefer PayPal, but have had to use the card several times here of late.

I do not order very often but on the occasion when I do I have not had any problems. When I do order it is usual from bigger chains

Please PM me who the sponsor is that you are talking about. I'll see what I can do.

Sounds too coincidental to me, maybe you have a keylogger virus on your computer/phone.

I've been in PM communications with Gillchaser, and my initial thought is that it really is a coincidence. It was two weeks between when he used it and the unauthorized purchase attempt was made. I'm not sure about everyone else, but I get notifications/calls from my bank regularly about purchases I did not make. By regularly I mean maybe once every six months, or year. It does happen, and the bank never charges me. I do understand his concern, especially because he does not use his card much, and maybe it is more than a coincidence. He notified the company, which he shared with me, and I'll share with you all. We can see if others have had the same experience. The company is Cra.pie Magnet. I do that so search engine don't pick it up. And even then, if it's an issue, its more likely to be one with their credit card processing provider. Folks can buy in my online store too, but I never see credit card numbers, it's all automated and goes direct through my cc processing provider.

This whole theft thing really is getting out of hand! One card I have attached to PayPal, so it only gets used for that and nothing else. I do not even use it locally, and only ever put in the digits once when attaching to PayPal account. I made one exception... I used it to place one order with an ammo reloading website, im not even sure why i used it at the time. This was September 2021. I got an email back in july that their security was breeched, then two weeks ago 5 attemped fraud charges on that account. They did two $1 charges, then a $37, then tried 350 and 3500. They let the three low ones through and then caught the other two and called me. All voided, new card in the mail.

Im not sure how long it takes before they steal from ya, but as far as my knowledge goes it goes something like this... A hacker group (usually in china) hacks a company and gets access to information, they then sell the information on a black market where other people buy them to resell again, either by numbers or they print fake cards. Then two bit idiots buy the individual numbers/cards and charge online or in person, usually for gift cards or bill pay services (my charges were bill pay).

A day or two after a purchase seems really fast.

I get some activity that I think is more phishing than anything else. I get notification that PayPal has a charge that I didn’t authorize, and the screen screams PayPal but it’s not, fake info is inserted. Few people call or message me and even less online so I’m pretty skeptical. PayPal has its own account to insulate me some.

Lots of Phishing out there for sure. Finally had one sent that was to the bank I use. Wife got the same text. She does not use that bank. Not only are they after individuals they are after all the companies. It has become big business for sure
