Water Heater issue
GE power vent - model GG40T06PVJ. The fan housing broke where it attaches to the motor. All around the hub.
- Can just the fan be replaced?
- could I epoxy it back together? Until I either put on a new fan, or a whole new assembly?
I couldn't find a part number for the assembly for GE. Found one for Rheem though. #SP13416. For a cost of around $370.
This water heater was made in 2007. Would you get the replacement part for $370? Or, Since I'm 1\4 of the way to a new water heater, get a new one? Given it's age.
Gonna call\stop by local plumbing stores tomorrow, see what they say and have.

wife and I talked about it last night. I’m going after work today, to get a new water heater. Did some looking online, 8-15 years is the average life of one. We’re at 15 years for ours.

Good call in my opinion. If it was tankless I would definitely replace it at that age. At 15 years old the new one should be more efficient

Installing a gas appliance can be a dangerous thing. If you are familiar with the process, then go for it. If not, become aware of the necessities of what is needed to make secure connections. Both gas and venting. Lives depend on it being done correctly.

New water heater bought, installed, old one hauled away. Need get one fitting so I can hook the return loop back up. I was pleasantly surprised that was the only thing that didn't go back together without further modification. Bought the new heater from a local shop, it was a little more expensive, however, if I have a problem, I call them. And they've helped me out quite a bit through the years for both personal and work. Well worth the extra to me!!
Mstr Dan - NO Gas leaks!! Mixed up some soap bubbles. Used pipe dope. Nasty stuff, gets everywhere. Very rarely have I had a leak when using it though. I used to deliver propane. Respect it (this goes for lots of stuff!), and do as you said, you'll be fine.

Great news. Pipe dope can sure be messy. Not as messy as the explosion if not used.Glad everything worked out. It's nice to have skills when needed.
