    Default Old Wives' Tales

We had a lot of fun out of the old and unusual says thread. So maybe we can get some fun out of this one.

    wives tale about wooly worms?

The old wooly worm prediction is the most popular one in the book. The two-toned fuzzy caterpillar is said to predict the severity of winter weather with the thickness of its stripes. If the brown band in the middle is narrow, the winter will be harsh; and if it's thicker, the opposite holds true.

It’s bad luck to open an umbrella indoors.
I think that one is partly factual. If one is dumb enough to think they need one indoors they probably do enough other stupid stuff to bring bad consequences on themselves!
