I found her a beautiful pb(5 #'r) to "show me what you can do!?" It was a little tight w/a couple small overhanging branches, so it was low percentage for a newbie. Absolutely sweet cast... except for the one, small branch. I anticipated her gamey frustration, and knew she was going to hopefully try a snatch/try again attempt. I almost yelled "STOP! just leave it hang there!(Ever try dangling a live fly on a string/in front of a Frog?) I think you know what happens WITHIN 5 "Mississippi's"! With the Crayfish "making waves" in the LM's lair, MRS. Greenback claimed residency and decided to pop a quick snack...Nope the line did NOT break because I highly recommended opening the bail. While I electric motor positioned us for the 12# mono "pre-photo op" Yessir, KODAK moment for sure. Now that made the Guide hungry, now anticipating HER idea of our lunch! Cool deal!! Almost! Two corned Beef/rye (1 man-sized for yours truly) w/Swiss, kosher pickles and my fav coarse deli Mustard. Problem was the Swiss-cheese was still in a block...she forgot the slicer. In between her apologies, it took me 5 seconds to grab HER rod, with hook still attached, used the 12# mono to cut through "like melted butter"(No, silly, we released the Spawner after she ran out of film) ...WAY BEFORE we even knew how to spell cell-phones! Sorry for the long read, but it definitely fits into this thread's purpose ="re-inventing" the wheel/joke/way is FUN and rewarding ESPECIALLY when it works!
    OK...who cut the cheez??!
Almost forgot to mention the bad trailer-bearing fiasco/turned sweet that happened on the way on this SAME TRIP!! Luckily, I had EVERYTHING(including already greased bearings) Zip-locked, ready to go 20 minutes later(still dark, 1 1/2 hour drive yet) We're still long-distance friends(1000 miles).

    Thanks for the bearing idea!

Those old outboards that were electric start had a pull rope tucked up under the cowling. If it was missing or dry rotted a piece of anchor rope worked in a pinch.

Always carry an anchor and a rope to cut it with

1/3 out...1/3 in...1/3 reserve in your gas tank.

    Don't tug on superman's cape.

Sometimes that river flow will greatly impact your fuel flow positive going with the flow and negatively going against. Really good point
