    Default Retirement relocation

I've got about 5 years to go before retirement. We are currently in Central Oregon. Thinking about a warmer climate. Looking to spend some vacation time checking out some potential areas. We like to fish for Crappie, Walleye and Catfish. Not into Bass, but could vet into Striper fishing. Florida is not an option. Texas is a maybe. Looking at Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Oklahoma. Will be on a fixed income so taxes will be a deciding factor. Would like to have multiple fishing options within an hours drive. Also do some deer and bird hunting. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Nashville area. Great city, great medical facilities, lots of good places to fish and hunt in close proximity and best of all no state income tax.

Heber Springs or Mountain Home , Arkansas have all you asked for.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and one that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

Lake Cumberland / Green River Lake area of KY could be of interest to you. Our state income tax is a flat rate of 5% ... sales tax is 6% ... avg. property tax rate is 0.83% (though, who knows what the rates will be ... anywhere ... in 5yrs )

Lake Cumberland has Stripers, Walleye, and Crappie .... Green River Lake has Walleye & Crappie (& Muskie) ... both have Catfish (as does nearly every puddle or stream in the state )

Deer hunting is good in that region, but I can't tell you much about "bird" hunting except for Dove. Quail & Pheasant hunting is available, but you'd have to research those. I've hunted both & killed both, but haven't in decades.

Don't think about North Carolina if taxes are a problem.

Alabama also doesn't tax most types of retirement income. Walleye are pretty scarce here (only exists in relatively small numbers in the Tennessee River system) but other fishing is great. We have low property taxes and most areas have very affordable property values. We chose to buy a home on Neely Henry Lake as our retirement place.

In KY it's not bad most of the Winter months, but there can be some Ice Storms (like we're going thru now), measurable snows several times during the period, and pretty cold temps .... but, "normally" they don't all occur at the same time, nor do they last for the entire Winter period. It's never cold enough, long enough, to freeze over our lakes to the point of being able to Ice Fish on them, but can be cold enough to freeze a sheet of ice over some parts.
