    Default Are The Hummingbirds Behind

On their migration or is it just me. I've got about half of what I usually have.
    Tell'em I'll be there.

They are swarming the feeders here at my home, that normally means they are getting ready to go south. Also there is a good chance for much cooler weather next week. My 2cts.

We were, going through 10 lbs of sugar about every 5 days here, and last week they slowed way down and were making their wild chirping abnormal sounds they make it seems like every year they are close to leaving. We are now feeding about half as many birds and only filling up the 4 feeders about every three days in this cold front, so they are slowly leaving here. The masses were late getting here this spring also. Been alittle weird this year.

Our 2 feeders have been getting swarmed all summer here in SE Ohio. Fun to watch them “fight” for position. They haven’t slowed down at all.

They left here about 4 days ago. For 3 weeks they have been like a hive of bees around the feeders; wife had to refill them 2-3 times a day then on Monday, poof, lucky to see 2-3 at a time and one fill lasts for a day and a half.

My wife makes up a plain table sugar/water syrup solution, but I'm not sure of the ratio, maybe 1 sugar, 4 water? She brings it up to a boil or near boil then lets it cool in the pan, off the burner. Once cool, it goes in the fridge. I think she got the recipe off the 'net.

I use 1 part sugar and 3 parts water, I do not boil, just mix it up with hot water and stir. It dissolves easily and they love. Refrigerate any leftovers. I have 5 feeders and they are wearing them out, they will leave soon. So sad.
