    Default Shopping during a panic

Just a heads up to check the expiration date on all you purchases. We've had 3 items we had to return due to expired dates.
We normally check perishable items but these were items with a 6-12 month shelf life.
I don't know if the stores are so overwhelmed they can't keep up or what.
So save yourself an unnecessary trip and check all dates.
The one that really got me was a can of soup. I couldn't help but wander where it had been the last year.

Not criticism but this is one of my pet peeves. Many, many people confuse "expiration date", "best by date", sell by date. etc. As long as there is no sign of rust, canned goods can last for decades. This started becoming popular in the 70's. How in the world did we manage to stay alive up til then? I could go on and on but won't and this isn't just my opinion. Research the subject. Lots of good info to be had. (like Al Capone and milk).

So why bother with the dates? Because the FDA says so. The manufacturers are not going to complain because they get to sell more. Again, just my opinion. BTW, new TV show on the other day where some people ate some hard tack left over from the civil war. And nobody died or even got sick. But hey, no expiration date on it.

Correction. Further research shows that the FDA isn't responsible for all those dates. They only require dates on one and that is baby formulas. How about those apples? It seems the manufacturers take it on themselves to date everything else. Think about that one. OH no! The dates expired. Gotta throw it away and buy some new stuff.

If people would just slow down and let supply catch up with demand, we would be a whole lot better off! There's plenty of food and staples in this Country! jmho

The specific items I referenced were much more spoilage prone than canned goods. Specifically,a gallon of the high shelf life milk that should be good for at least a month expired in 3 days. I can assure you I'd end up throwing over half away.
The other was "canned" peaches actually sealed in the little cup like plastic container. These usually have a 10-12 month shelf life but much less than those sealed in real cans.
The ones we got were past date by over a month.
Had it been in a can I probably would used but the plastic not so much.
As always use good judgement when buying and consuming anything.

Agree! That's why I didn't check the date. Know better next time!

We check dates on everything we buy. Have been it for a long time.
