Default Woke up this morning to the smell of something getting hot.

About time my eyes opened the smoke detector goes off. The capacitor on the furnace fan motor had went out. When the heat kicked on it went into its high fire heat up stage at which the fan will come on a minute later. No working capacitor, no working fan. The furnace ran with no airflow until the tripped out on high heat. Good thing for built in fail safes. Otherwise it might have been bad for me. Capacitor replaced and furnace working as it should and since I was already in there it good a good cleaning too

Repaired and ready to go keeps me out of the dog house. The little woman doesn't like to be cold. It does get one to thinking

What Dave said. Those start capacitors shut a lot of folks down . Good deal that you could fix it yourself.

You were very lucky there wasn't a fire. Scary thing.

I woke to that smell back in the 80's and it is scary situation. The furnace was likely 30 years old, the blower belt broke but the furnace kept heating.
I had 3 young ones at home. Took the day off to find a belt and replace it. All was good.
We all have had these things happen, we must be preventative.
Glad that it all ended happily for you.

I still have A/C on. This weekend is first spell of cool weather here. Welcome change from the heat.
