Global Warming- yes, I believe!!!

We are in a very early heat wave, here in the Memphis Tn. area. I fished yesterday in 92 degree temps. Unreal, to say the least. This has been a real funky spring with rain, and high winds. The big 4 Ms. lakes are swollen almost to the point of dams bursting. I have a question- do any of the old timers, around here remember a spring, early summer like this. I do not in my 72 tears. I did catch some fish but the discomfort of the heat, sort of drained my fun.

Your belief shows you are an intelligent man. We are 4" above normal rainfall here in the DFW area (Texas) for this month and the lake I fish is 9' above flood level. Houston has been pounded by rain and flooding this month so they can't release the water as it would increase the flooding from here to there. All the boat ramps are closed and the lake may end up being closed if the rains continue. (More are in the forecast for next week) Some DFW lakes are already closed to boat traffic.

I am about to start fishing early mornings and nights again as it is becoming too hot to fish during the day. I've found that the crappie have retreated to deeper water. We are only catching small ones at the slips and in the lower level brush piles. And the high winds make it difficult to fish the deeper, open water. But I will be fishing every day, as it is fun catching the small ones.

I remember screwy weather patterns on & off for many of my 7 decades on this Earth. Last year's Spring Fling was in late Apr and the weather was nice, but the air was cool enough that many wore jackets while attending the fish fry portion of the event. This year it rained, but not the thunderstorms that were forecast. Wearing a rain suit during the day's fishing was a "get wet" proposition .... you don't wear it & you get wet from the rain -- you do wear it and you get wet from sweating from the heat.

Personally, I'm not in the "climate change" camp (politically) ... but, the climate is not a steady event and never has been. By that I mean we don't see temps rise/fall on a steady seasonal basis. We don't have steady temps of 40's in Feb, 50's in Mar, 60's-70's in Apri/May, 80's in June, 90's in July/Aug, etc. I've seen 70's & 80's in Nov/Dec, and I've seen it snow on Easter. Back in 2007 we had an early spell of hot weather, then cold weather, then quickly back to hot weather from late March to mid April ... all documented in my notes from my (former) annual Spring trip to Watts Bar Lake in E. Tenn. We caught 52 very nice keeper Crappie over that weekend, including the 2.75lb "Big Momma" that's pictured in my avatar. We haven't had quite the same success there since 2010 ... but, that has more to do with the TVA changing the timing of the rise/fall of the lake's water levels, than the weather changes. IMHO

Cold wet spring here,lakes haven't made 60 degrees yet...only a couple of 70 degree days all spring..raining today a high of 55...going to be a lot of preventive planting in the upper Midwest this spring

I don't have a clue if it's real or not. I do know that it can't be a good thing to put all the pollutants we are putting in the air and streams. And it's not
a good thing to fracture the earth. And it's not a good thing to dig canals for the salt water to pour into the marshes at will. But without all of these
things, how are rich people going to stay rich. There's two sides to every story.

I'm in the anti-global warming camp. I agree pollutants should not be dumped into our water systems. But weather runs in cycles. Wisconsin had winter for an extra month last year. When we went on vacation (Long Lake near Hayward) in July there were no weeds where they normally would be. Local residents said the late snow storm pushed the weed growth out a month. The Mississippi River around here has been high the last 4 years...with the exception of last year where the levels were actually normal. I don't normally fish the river. But I cross over it enough to see what level it is at.

This is too politically charged a topic but leave out AGW and discussion of historical weather patterns as they relate to fishing is fine. I would change the title :-)

I truly think that there is climate change! That being said, we have only kept track of the weather records for about 150 yrs. That is only a drop in the bucket of time, they have found seashells in the Rocky Mountains and all sorts of other thing that they don't have a clue as to how they got there. We may be in a cooling cycle right now...I Don't know and if the man above wants it hotter, then will have it or he can make ice! It's been happening since before man was walking this Earth and it will be so after we are gone. We shouldn't pollute or air or water for humanity, but what happens.....happens. Not a lot we can do about it!

2 camps for sure, either way it has been rough in spots, thanks for the responses. As I get older, it really hurts me to me a fishing day.
