Dr said I’m going to have to have knee replacement surgery. Any body had this done? How did it turn out?

I had my left knee replaced in 2014. If my other one goes bad I'd have the surgery again without question. The rehabilitation can be hard but once you get past that it's worth it.
Do everything that the physical therapist tells you and then do a little more.

I didn't but my bride did. The best advice you will get is: Do the therapy! Her surgeon impressed on her that if she did not get serious about her therapy she would have a much harder time. She got serious and was walking without a cane in less than 2 months. That was 2 years ago and today she is pain free in that knee.

I've had both of mine done! Do what the therapist tells you and push till you CAN'T stand it! Don't skip your exercise! Had the first one done in 06, second in 12.

I had mine done 4 years ago. I kept putting it off until I could barely walk because I was fearful. Afterwards, I was really pleased with the results. It almost felt better right after the surgery than it did before the surgery. I will not hesitate so long to get the other one done when the time comes. Do leg strengthening exercises before hand and do the therapy afterwards. Work hard at it and don't get discouraged in therapy. Ice packs will be your best friend for a while. I still do exercises to keep mine limber. Sometimes I forget that I ever had my knee replaced. It's about the only part of my that doesn't hurt these days.

All of what everyone else said. I had mine done in 2013 and was kayak fishing 6 weeks later. One of the reasons I chose the doctor and group that I did was because they were...and are, high tech. My incision was glued shut. I was in the shower the next morning. My knee was glued in. I still have friends getting knee replacements and can’t shower for weeks because they are stapled....stitched. Plus the use of robotics. I need a hip...another knee and will get it done by the same guy. I am down to 263 from 333 and when I get 45 more pounds off I will have them both done. Best of luck.

FYI: I hope this post is not too late, but I wanted to add that my surgeon used a knee replacement called a "Conformis" for mine. With this, they do a CT scan of your knee, send the scan off to the company, and they make a 3D printed version of your actual knee joint based on the scan. This means it is an exact replica of your original knee and fits perfectly, so it means it's a better fit. I had this done and the therapists were impressed at how well I progressed in therapy. Not all surgeons are doing this.

I walked that night with aid of a walker...although it was somewhat painful, and was walking 2 days later with a walker and switched to a cane about 2 weeks out. I was driving 3 weeks after surgery and was fishing out of a kayak 6 weeks after surgery.

There are some variables depending on each person. They got me to walk on it about 2 hours after surgery. Went home the next morning and used my walker. Used a walker for a week or so. Then progressed to a cane. I couldn't drive for a while because I had my left knee replaced and couldn't push the clutch in on my truck. Could have probably driven an automatic before that. I took off from work for 10 weeks because I am on my feet all day and there is no light duty where I work.

After 3 years or so, I still don't fish out of a kayak...has nothing to do with my knee though!
