Dog problem

We have two peek-a-poos, siblings, males (11 yrs old). About two months ago one of them started a runny nose (one nostril) and "reverse sneezing", new term for me also.
Several trips to the vet, different meds, still happening. Last night he vomited, alot. Started having labored breathing, whining. No more runny nose though.
Took to vet this morning, nothing obvious for the labored breathing. They took x-rays, nothing. While getting x-ray, he urinated, red when he was finished. Stone's. Vet said Stone's wouldn't make him act like this. So something else is going on also. Elevated temperature.
He's acting depressed, the vet noticed it also.
Had blood drawn for blood work, they'll call later with results.
We're about $700 into this.
At what point do you stop?
We've had them since pup's. Our kids grew up with them.

I echo the above. We had to make the call just last week, but he made it obvious to us. It still was hard as heck, and still hurts today. Wishing you the best during a difficult time.

I had an 11 year old lab that I kept alive with expensive medicines for two more years. It was a mistake. I will never do it again.
He was my duck hunting buddy and I caused him to live in pain two years longer than he should have. I was doing everything I
could to do what was best for him when the right thing to do was let him go. That was about twenty five years ago. I think of him
often.

I agree with what’s said already. I lost 2 of 4 within a year, and one was my buddy. Still hurts today and it’s going on 2 years. She lived in pain too long, and I’ll never forgive myself for that.

Hope he gets better. My wife and I read these post's. We have had to make the decision before. Very tough indeed. But I would not want to suffer, so I think our dogs wouldn't want to suffer. Just hugged our 2 and gonna be snoring with them soon.

Very well said. It gets incredibly hard when anyone is faced with these kinds of decisions regarding a beloved pet. I totally agree with what SpeckledSlab said... but would add that you will know when the time comes to make that decision. I've been there and done that at least a half dozen times. You will know deep inside of yourself.
