Buy the way tvs now are coming with roku installed all you need to do is have a router. Amazon fire is another tv based internet service.
We dropped dish network 2 years ago and went to a external tv antenna. Have used roku and local tv stations for entertainment. No way will i go back to cable or satellite. Watch all of youtube it has to offer to view.
Local tv services beside networks are me tv,antenna tv,cozi, cw, escape, h and i,decades, movies, light, comet, grit, local weather channel, and explorer. All this with antenna in one position.
Always something to watch on you tube has a lot of westerns, comedy, drama etc. Virginian, gunsmoke, big valley, high chapparal , amosnandy
Today i was looking at roku's new listings, which they add new channels every week it was up to i believe 1165 channels most free too. Pluto network on roku has over 100 channels alone.

YouTube, Amazon prime, and a few others for me. Unlimited data on my phone is far cheaper than my old satellite service. DirecTV has no problem jacking rates and letting you know but, when they run a sale, the surely won't tell you.
I live in the sticks so options are limited. I purchased a device that lets me cast my phone directly to my TV. I gave up sports years ago so that isn't an issue.
There is more cool programs online then ever was on TV. Watched a program last night on the Nazi POW that left the camp in New Mexico and spent 40 years on the FBI most wanted before turning himself in during 1985.
Ttexastom that’s the way we have done it for probably the last 4 years. Sometimes we browse through Netflix or Hulu or another streaming service through Roku if there is something there we want want to watch for a while we subscribe but great part you can cancel anytime. We may watch a series or something for a month then cancel no big deal we have gone in and out many times just to watch an added program for a while. And at even then 8 bucks a month no big deal and we never keep subscribed for more than a month usually. Only bad part internet out here in the country cost a bunch. We pay about 60 bucks a month for that but need it anyway.

What works best depends on where you live. Outside antenna where I stays will not work. I would need a 150 foot tower. The new digital broadcast signals are low power and cell phone has severe latency problems in out area, so phone hot spot has very limited use. Satellite works cause I have a shot at the sky on an old tv tower (which worked well till things went full digital).

Roku is the least expensive option, as long as you have basic cable and a router (for WiFi). No need for antennas. I don't have any.
