    Default Retirement in Tennessee

I am hoping I can get some good info here. I currently live in Maryland and will be retiring in the next three years. I love the Eastern Shore of Maryland with all of the fishing and hunting, but it gets really remote to be at all affordable. That concerns me as my wife and I age. I am looking for somewhere on the water. I don't mind if I have neighbors, as long as I have enough property to put up a good size pole barn to keep my boat(s) 4 wheelers and such in. I would like to be close enough to others so if I kick the bucket, my wife can stay in the house and have people to socialize with, check on her etc. What lakes should I look at? What areas to avoid? Plan on taking a few road trips to Knoxville/Nashville area to check things out. I would also like to be a reasonable distance to a Hospital, movies, restaurants, grocery stores etc. I know, I am looking for a lot. I am just trying to get pointed in the right location to begin my search. Also enjoy waterfowl and deer hunting if that is any good in the area. Thanks

Hard to go wrong with the Murray Ky area. You will have access to the lakes of Kentucky and Barkley.

If you have a large retirement fund, Tellico Lake in Eastern Tennessee is a gray haired paradise. Tellico and Loudon are hooked together, it close to Knoxville and UT with lots of doctors, restaurants, shopping, the "village" is a boaters/fishing paradise, 40 minutes to Gatlinburg, trout fishing, bear watching, Dollywood. Boat houses allowed, NO POLE BARNS ALLOWED in the village.

I live on KY lake, it is much more laid back, rural, and less shopping doctors, etc. POLE BARNS ALLOWED. Oh, and the crappie fishing is better too! Murray State is a nice school that attracts some entertainers, decent basketball program. Nashville is 2 hours away, I fly out of BNA every week for work.

If you wife needs to be near a city, you might want to look at Old Hickory or Percy Priest near Nashville.

You should give the Winchester Tn. area a look. We have 3 lakes ( Normandy, Tims Ford, Woods), within 20 miles or less. Great small town living with good property prices, lots for building on Tim's or existing lake homes. Great fishing and hunting and mild weather with a definite 4 seasons. Low taxes and no state income tax. I live 2 blocks from downtown and there are lake lots and homes available out my back window. Best of luck with your search.
