I live in Southeast Missouri but spent a good part of my life Around the North end of Kentucky Lake and Barkley. I have two brothers retired there now. This entire area is a world apart from a lot of the madness you see elsewhere. If you just need to have some city Paducah and Murray are nice towns. This is the start of the South..easy day trips to Nashville. One day easy drive to the Gulf Coast. Any further North than here much colder in Winter...any further South much warmer in summer and winter. You will see extreme cold and heat here be sure of that. Change of seasons....and steel your wool for the humidity. The river valleys got that.It all has a life cycle though and we do have some pretty weather part of the time.

My Dad was a sailor and always told me...son I have sailed the Seven Sea's..and all things being equal it doesn't get much better than right around here. Man can make a fairly easy living in these fertile lands, lakes and rivers.

Douglas an cherokee are flood control lakes meaning they can fluctuate up to 50ft from summer to winter. If you look at property
on them make sure it is in the winter because a lot of it will not have water acess except in the summer months. Watts bar only fluctates
about 5 ft from summer to winter

We moved to Savannah, Tn. in Feb. Love the area, but haven't fished Pickwick much. Been too busy building. That is changing soon, house finished and getting boat ready. Good luck on your search and move.

Good read, my wife and I have 4-5 years to go before "her" retirement, I'll never retire just slow down. We have been discussing where we will go, Florida was on the list for many years but now it just looks waaaaay too populated for us.
Tenessee has come up more and more in our "future" discussions.

Yep. Tennessee is a hot spot for retirement. Lots of young folks retire here too. Yep. I drive around town and see lots of young folks (20-30 yr olds) sitting in their rockers and lawn chairs.
