    Default Mansfield Bar

Feeshing White Kitchen Friday reminded me of this.....

How Jayne Mansfield Changed the Design of Tractor-Trailers | Mental Floss

I'm sure PPG is familiar with the bar at the rear of tractor trailers. But what does this have to do with WK? Well dat was her last stop on the her trip to NOLA.

Thanks for the post it brings back some forgotten memories. I remember when that accident happened with Jane Mansfield and I can tell you that you couldn't see far in that thick fog that that truck put out. As a kid we would ride our bikes through that stuff, you could only stay in it as long as you could hold your breath. My dad said it was kerosene mixed with DDT, momma use to fuss cause it left an oil slick in the bath tub. Maby that's why when the moon is just right I start glowing green at night.

I remember that accident well. I still get chills when I think of it. Back then I was only 23 years old and the thought of someone getting decapitated like she was really unsettled me.

About 10 years back the owner of the company I was working for did the same thing. He was driving fast as usual and came upon a tractor trailer that he plowed into. the Mansfield Bar stopped him from going completely under but he still nearly lost his life. He remained crippled and never completely recovered. He suffered greatly until his death last year.

I always called it the ICC Bumper, and I have seen several vehicles under trailers even with those with the bar. It is only effective at moderate speeds not for overtaking the trailer at high speeds.
