I received a questionnaire from the Dept of Wildlife Dept about Outlaw Quadrupeds and Preditors. At the time there had been no Rabbits here for years and the Squirrels were so spooked you could spend the day in the woods and only come home with Two for the Pot. There were no wild hogs here or Turkeys. Some things have changed, while other things have not. Nature does things that keeps balance and I have changed my thoughts on some things. A couple of months ago when I was pulling the Boat in the Driveway, I stopped to ID what was in front of me. I counted what looked like 5 wild Cat kittens almost full grown playing running , jumping and Mock war.... they all looked the same, a dark color with a black tail -- all playing beside the storage shed in my yard. I left the truck there and used a tree to get close enough to see they were Baby Gray foxes about half grown before they all went under the shed. I wanted them to think that it was a save place and took table scraps and water bowls to supplement the Food that the mother was bringing them to grow. they never came out from under the shed when I called to let them know the dinner bell was ringing
During the Rainy season there is about an Acre of grass that can't get cut because the ground is too soft. Mice and Rats take over and the Hawks would be happy if the Birds could see them in the waist high grass. Anything but Poisonous Snakes that keeps the rat population down is welcome to stay and hunt all they want to.....
