Very sad
In 1965 , 1966 and first months of 1967 --- I spent many hours on the Aircraft Carrier USS BON HOMME RICHARD CVA - 31.. We spent many hours at Air Operations off the Coast of Viet Nahm ---- she had been converted to a Helicopter Marine Assault Ship and given a New ship designation number --- She is in Port at San Diego and caught Fire --- the Fire supression system had been shut down for Maint, and repairs. the fire is in the lower decks and Bad --- the Ship is loaded with fuel -- this fire may become the death of a great Lady serving our Country since the end of WW 2
Very sad

The ship you served on CV31 was decommissioned in 1971 and struck in 1998. She was then scrapped. The ship that was on fire LHD-6 was laid down in 1995, launched in 1997 and commissioned in 1998. Two different ships. Still sad event most likely due to negligence
