    Default Spot and the Coon

Sense all the rain we got over the weekend 14" I'm back on the 4 wheeler again with water crossing my driveway in 3 places. On the 2 mi ride to my truck and boat this morning Spot sees a coon in the road and dives off the bike to chase him. This is nothing unusual sense all 27lbs of Jack Russell mix he thinks he is 10 ft tall and bulletproof and will chase anything. Instead of going up the first tree the coon came to he decided to hit the slew with Spot hot on his tail. After about a 10min battle the coon made a break for deeper water and every time I would get close to catching Spot the farther in the slew they would go. I made my way back to the bike to get my gun and I'm soaking wet and mad. By the time I found them both looked about half drowned then Spot gets a dose of courage cause I'm back and they are fighting again and he won't get far enough away for a clear shot. I tried shooting near them thinking the blast of the 357 would scare and separate them but only pushed them in deeper water with the coon on Spots back holding on to his collar and biting him on the head. Finely after they are both under water for what seemed like an eternity they both came up seperated and I got a clear shot on the coon. I'm in waste deep water now and grab Spot by the tail and drag him back to shallow water to check his wounds, 2 good bite marks on the top of the head. By the time we got to the truck it's a little after 5am, change to dry clothes and off to Palmer Chapel Oxbow. Spot is not his normal self, I think he swollowed to much water and cut the trip short. So how did your morning start?

I've always heard that a coon will always whup a dog in the water. Sure glad to hear Spot made it alright. Maybe he'll leave coons alone from now on.

Ole Spot is one tough little guy. Good thing you have each others backs. That's what best friends are for.
