Wink RED TAILS for a Tuskegee Airman

These "Red Tail" lures are for the son of a family friend. His dad and my dad were airplane mechanics with the Tuskegee Airmen. This is what I came up with to send to him to fish with and to honor our dads for their service. Some of the jigs can be fished under a slip float. The White Wax worms and the Red worms are to be floated off the bottom from six to ten inches. (See the photo). I made them with the floating material concealed inside the red balloon or white balloon wrapping.

    I welcome your comments.

Many years ago I used to tie up a little trout fly streamers with red on the tail end underneath the eye of the hook yellow body white behind the eye of the HOOK on top they were killers . That was in the early 60s I think I was about 15 or 16.

There is something about using blood red in all of my lures. It might be the hook sometimes. It might be in imitation open gill plate sometimes. It might be a blood red jig head sometimes. It might be a blood red tail as in this case. The point is that I have confidence in the color because it attracts the prey to what they think is a wounded baitfish. I have blood red color somewhere on or in 97% of all my lures. The most important tools in your tackle box are Slab Sauce and confidence.

Here is another tip. Instead of using a lighter to seal the tip end of the yarn in the tail, just use a long needle and separate the tail strands. Now you have a blood red simulation in a tube tail type jig. Put some Slab Sauce on the yarn. It stays active a long time in the yarn and leaves a nice scent trail. Since the scent is within grasp of the hook point... You got dinner.
