Default I don't want my sons to lose interest.

    Hello,
I live in Charlotte right at the Mt Holly border. Earlier this spring I bought a kayak to mess around with my two sons in. They are currently 8 and 13. My wife at the time worked Sundays. We took out the kayak 6-10 times and never got a bite. Granted we were bass fishing in the middle of the day. They were really excited at the beginning, but have lost interest. A couple months ago my wife's schedule changed and we decided to buy a boat. Its a bowrider, but I plan on using it for fishing in the coming weeks. I have already bought a depth finder Lowrance Hook Reveal 7 TS, and will install it when the ram mount and transducer mount come in. I don't have a trolling motor YET. So I feel that nightstalking may be my best bet to put fish in the boat this fall. I'm more than open to different strategies and discussions about it. I probably need an outlet for my fishing talk anyway. Wife and kids are growing tired of it, but she stayed at home with them until the youngest started school and I'm jacked to finally be able to get on the water after all these years. It's what I always wanted.

I have my boat stored close to South Point landing on Lake Wylie. That is the landing I use. I plan on finding underwater structure or a bridge and anchoring down. I have a fluke style anchor and will have to throw it out and drag it until it catches. That worries me. Will not being stealthy interfere with my ability to catch fish? Will they swim away or hug the structure? I want this first trip to be some what of a success. I have some of the well known places in mind, but I don't necessarily need to catch crappie. White perch would be more than fine and I'm interested in making a lot of fish tacos so hopefully I'll be able to help cull the number of them. If you know some spots feel free to message me, but I'm fine figuring out as I go too. Until I start catching fish I'm only going to have a NC license.

Kind of a long post, but I'm making my introduction and plan on being around for a while. Looking forward to getting to know you guys.

I would try to get on some perch if you can find a school with your depth finder. That would keep the kids busy. I would post on the South Carolina your info. More people that fish Wylie are on the SC board.

Lots of SC lake Wylie folks night stalk so I would post in SC forum and I’m sure you’ll find folks willing to help. Congrats on the boat and just enjoy the time together and on the water.

The perch are in 20 ft of water on points and humps, I saw perch yesterday right in front of south point landing...get you some worms and a 2 hook rig with 3/4 oz sinker on bottom , drop it to the bottom, jig it up and let it hit bottom again, the perch can't stand it....

Head down to the creek that the new Marina/ Dry storage is, by the bridge at the NC/SC line. Anchor up off the creek channel about sunset, drop lights in, and vary your depths til you find what they want. Hook and split shot with a minnow. I've put hundreds of pounds of crappie in the boat down there like that.
