Default First trip to High Rock

It all started about ten months ago when my wife and I were having a hard time finding an Airbnb/Vrbo to book for a long weekend trip so we settled on scheduling it for 10 months in the future. Fast forward to this week and it has already came and gone. It was more or less scheduled as a family trip with some fishing mixed in and I figured April would be a good time since they’d be up shallow and have nice weather for any other activities that might would come up.

We got to the house up on Swearing Creek on Thursday afternoon and got settled in. Friday morning we went to Eve’s Diner and had a really good breakfast and even ate there the next morning as well. Back at the house we set out not really knowing about which parts of the lake may produce the best fishing so my dad and I starting fishing some docks with jigs toward the back of Swearing with no luck. Moved across the lake to Crane Creek, trying some docks and a shallow swampy area with no luck. The catfish did give us a show in the swampy area. I assume they were chasing bait in the shallows from all the thrashing around they were doing. Moved to the creek straight across from Crane and picked up three 10 inchers under a dock to put on the ice. I was wanting to focus on brush piles since most of the people I saw were up shallow with corks but had a hard time finding them on side imagining.

Saturday morning we switched to pitching corks with a jig around docks/shallow areas and I ended up catching one small one and letting two get away. We didn’t fish as long since my wife wanted to ride on the boat and look at houses. We usually fish Jordan and Harris so houses on the water are new to us.

All in all it was an enjoyable weekend and the first time my dad has been crappie fishing with me. Along with Eve’s Diner we also enjoyed some good eats at Tamarac and Cook’s BBQ. Looking forward to getting back to HR for another crack at them. Sorry for the long post but I enjoy these types of posts so I figured I’d share it with yall.

Glad you enjoyed your stay, and you know fishing is fishing sometimes they bite and then sometimes they are tight lipped as can be.

Clark, look up PR fishing on you tube. He posts a new show almost weekly and most are on High Rock. With his info you should be able to find em when you return.

I am subscribed to him and enjoy his videos. There’s just so many docks to pick apart but it was my first time fishing docks. I know to look for the differences in wood pole vs floating, etc but that’s about all knowledge I have.
