    Default Tire Question

I need to replace the tires on my 2005 Tracker PT175. The size is ST175/80D 13. What would be a good brand? And should I go to a radial rather than a bias ply? The ones presently on it came on it. No dry rot or cracks but 16 years is very old for a tire even when it is garage kept!

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I've heard there is a big difference in Goodyear Marathons and everything else. I personally don't believe it. The biggest thing that kills tires are bad axle alignment and the sun.

Tires have a compound in them that resist drying out. However, it only works if you keep moving the tire. Rotating and flexing brings that compound to the top of the tire. Which why tires dry out if they sit still for long periods of time. Keeping them inside makes all the difference in the world. At least cover them or keep them out of direct sun. 16 years is impressive.

Personally, I'd take it to Discount Tire and get what they have. They move tons of tires and have the best customer service in the industry. That is what I did when I replaced mine last year. No problems.

When it comes to trailer tires, remember ABC - Anything But Carlisle.

I have off brand trailer tires on mine. They as good as any. Main thing is get a real trailer, radial tire. Trailer heavy duty tires have extra beef in sidewall to protect asainst curbing.

Thanks for your thoughts and ideas. I have ordered two Kenda Loadstar Karrier tires the size of the ones I had on it. Will see how they work. Not much to choose from around here. Not sure if it is because of the covid stuff or not. Will get them on April 16. God a trip planned in June to High Rock and was afraid to pull it that far on 16 year old tires. But I hate to see them go for they came on the Tracker PT175 in 2005. Lot of history there. Except when on fishing trips the boat has not set outside overnight. Still looks good after 16 years. But momma always said take care of things and things will take care of you. And, "Visitation" has done that for 16 years of fishing. I was pastoring when I received the boat. The church and community people went together and bought it for my 20th anniversary there. One of the church members told me to name it visitation and when I went fishing have the secretary tell anyone who called for me that I was out on visitation!
    Thanks again guys.

changing to radial construction is the best move I did for my trailer. Sundance is right about using the tires. If the stay still too long they will dry rot and get flat spots. If you have a light boat not as much as a heavy boat. I also switch sides once a year. Thats just me.

The one that came on my boat trailer were nylon. The ones I have bought are radial. I agree that is the way to go. Will be ten days before they arrive. Checked other places and did not have what I wanted. I agree with the "ABC" formula! Thanks for all the suggestions.

Happy Fishing to all. Can't get out as much as I used to even though I am now retired. Last year, after a year of wondering what was going on, my wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. So, I get out when our daughter can stay with her. But she is a school teacher and her time is limited. Appreciate your prayers for my Wife--who is the love of my life. Thanks.

+1 for radials. Best move I’ve made too. Prayers for the Mrs. That’s tough on everyone, especially the caregivers.

What is behind the "ABC-anything but Carlisle" statement, Have run their tires and had reasonably good service from them, just purchased two last year and other than being packed tight and slightly misfromed making mounting them a pain they seem to be performing well. Just wondering what I am missing about the Carlisle tires????
